We paid for a site visit and consultation for a commercial project. The consultation was done by zoom where we were shown a number of photos of our site that they would not release to us. A man who had not visited the site, proceeded to walk through the photos and tell us all of the ways our project could be done. He pressed for a design contract. There is no way he could talk intelligently about this project without physically seeing it. When we asked for copies of the photos that one of his staffers took, they wanted to charge us another $600. So $1250 for a consult with someone who had not seen the site and photos that a staffer took. I would never do business with a company like this. He couldn’t even start the zoom meeting on time.

In more details: For a renovation project I interviewed half dozen of structural engineering company. They were the only who said they need to come out first to X-ray the foundation to make sure the project is feasible. They have got my trust with this from the start.
During the execution and design they exceeded my expectation. Provided construction ready drawing and accommodated revisions. Wow. Besides that their price was very reasonable.

Beware of this engineering firm. I used them for structural frame design on a house and am dealing with a significant set of problems. As a builder I rely on engineers to produce reliable documents which A1 has failed to do. They have also not stepped up to make right issues directly caused by their engineering documents. I would highly suggest finding a different engineer for a structural design. Please see the issues below.

Through the process I was forced to work with three separate engineers. Apparently they have an issue keeping the same staff which is detrimental to an engineering project.

After finding multiple errors, I followed up to have the documents reviewed for errors again. There were still errors which is extremely worrisome. I paid an engineer because I myself am not an engineer. I expected the engineering to be correct, which with A1 is apparently to much to ask.

Conflicting notes calling out different materials required a correction costing me over $8,000.

They at first came off as understanding of the issue but that soon changed. After seeing that the error was in fact caused by their process, the went silent on compensation. They do not back up or stand by the product they produce. This is essential to success of any company.

After telling me : we understand the importance of this issue, I will email you today (4 times), I sent you an email (lie), email is broken(probably a lie), and we will get back to you; I have realized I have been left out to dry.

I approached the error with calmness, respectfulness, and understanding. I offered to come together and find a resolution, but this did not work. They do not stand behind their product.

Find another engineering firm at all cost. Sound engineering is too important to overlook.

Have been waiting on drawings from them for over a month. They want payment for a revision, even though the revision was only needed because of a mistake they had made. They will not release the drawings to us without payment. They are also not returning our calls. I am trying to refinance my home, and cannot do so until drawings are released to us (and we can finish the work).

I got a quote from them for framing and foundation design. Told them I liked the quote and would like to proceed. They answered asking for my phone number so they could discuss further. I gave them my phone number, but never heard from them. I then spent the next five days trying to get in touch with someone over there. Half the time their phone rang and rang; no answer and no voicemail. They stopped answering e-mails. I finally got through to someone on the phone--after 5 days--and was told that my contact person was on the other line and would call me right back. Of course, she never did. Mind you, this was not the wait for the actual work, which could understandably take a while. This was just trying to get in touch somebody, anybody at the business to get them to take my money and confirm the job.
